What is the best way to keep deer from eating plants (without fencing)?

I have a partly shady flower garden backing up to woods.|||They have a motion/sensor sprinkler just for deer and other critters. It works so good. Also you can get a nice batch of red mature hot peppers at the market. In a large pot on the stove, in a well ventilated kitchen, bring to a boil and IMMEDIATELY reduce to a simmer, and continue for 30 mins or more. After it cools you can apply it with a sprayer. You can spray it on the plants and the surrounding area. It won%26#039;t hurt the plants and the critters don%26#039;t like the hot stuff. You will need to re-apply after it rains.
