I have 2 maltipoos 8yrs and 8months, underground fencing or training collar?

Hi,I have 2 maltipoos 8yrs and 8months, they need to run, so I was thinking should I get the underground fencing or should I try a training collar.Please help me the youngest almost got hit by a car yesterday, chasing a bird..%26quot;|||I have had the %26quot;invisible%26quot; type of fence for over 10 years now.

The %26quot;invisible%26quot; type of fence is not cruel like some people on this site will tell you. The shock that it gives is mild (and yes, I have been shocked by it). The shock value is immeasurable. The better type of fence systems collars also give a warning beep when the dog gets near the perimeter well before delivering a shock. With proper training the dog will learn quickly where it can and cannot go. Hence it won%26#039;t get a shock. Most of the people who will tell you that they don%26#039;t work are ignorant about the fences in the first place or they bought one (maybe a junk one like PetSafe and many others), slapped the collar on the dog and then booted him out the door without training him. And sometimes they are just plain stupid, and you can%26#039;t fix stupid.

Sometimes a conventional fence is not an option either due to the cost of fencing a large piece of property or because some housing developments have restrictions on fences.

Sometimes a conventional fence will not contain your dog at all. He can go over it or under it.

If you are looking for an Invisible Fence brand fence you will have to contact a local dealer for a price to install it though I can almost guarantee it will be over $1000.00. If you wish to install it yourself (and it%26#039;s pretty easy to do in 2 - 3 hours depending on the size of your property) it is available online (but not I/F brand).

The %26quot;invisible%26quot; type of fence consists of three things. First is the wire which is buried an inch or two into the ground. This wire defines the outer perimeter of the containment area. You can also block off areas (flowerbeds, pools etc) within the containment area. Some experimentation may be necessary in this. Second is the transmitter that is mounted to the wall indoors and connected to the fence wire, and third is the collar that the dog wears. The transmitter sends out an AM radio band signal that the collar will sense if your pet gets to close to the electronic field. The collar will then deliver a correction. Some of the better ones will give a warning beep prior to delivering a shock. Though it is a strong shock it will not harm the pet in any way. Small marker flags are placed along the inner edge of the field about 5 to 10 feet apart during the training period and removed (every other one) as the pet gets used to the fence.

Huskies are escape artists. We have 16 of them. The only thing that I have found that they can%26#039;t go over or under is invisible type fencing. Some folks say that it doesn%26#039;t work on Huskies. They don%26#039;t know what they are talking about. You can%26#039;t buy the cheap stuff, like what they sell at Lowe%26#039;s or Home Depot or PetSmart etc. The best I have found is the Smart Dog 2100 by Innotek. You can find it on line at several sites, discounted for less than $170.00 with 1 collar. Extra collars are about $80.00. The kit has everything needed including 500%26#039; of wire and flags, enough to do a quarter acre. Expansion kits (500%26#039; of wire and flags) are available for $38.00 and will contain a bit more than an acre. The collars are rechargeable (unlike the %26quot;Invisible Fence%26quot; and most others where you have to buy the proprietary (one place to get it = expensive) batteries every 3 or so months), has battery backup for the transmitter, run through prevention, waterproof, etc. if you are in an area that has a lot of thunderstorms I would consider a lighting protection module ($50.00). Innotek now owns Invisible Fence brand. Be sure to use heat shrink type crimp on butt connectors on the wire if needed. They are available at marine supply stores. Do not use the %26quot;weatherproof wire nuts%26quot; from Lowe%26#039;s etc. They will not work for long in this application. Use an edger to dig the %26quot;trench%26quot; for the wire. The wire only has to be buried 1 or 2 inches down. The yard will “heal” within a few days normally. Crossing driveways can be done two ways, wash a tunnel underneath with a garden hose or use a Skilsaw with a concrete blade to cut a groove an inch or so deep, put the wire in and seal it with a concrete sealer. For a gravel driveway, dig a trench an inch or so wide and a a bout 3 or 4 inches deep, lay an old piece of garden hose in the trench and put the wire through. This will protect the wire from the gravel cutting it when run over by a car.

The key is taking the time to train your pet. I have known of people to pay big money to install a fence, strap the collar on their dog and then complain that the fence is junk when the dog blows right through it. Longhaired breeds require a longer contact probe on the collar (these are included with the system above). Training may take awhile, one of ours took 18 months (she was a bit stubborn) before we trusted her, most were pretty good in a month or so and we have one that it only took 3 days! The amazing thing is that we can take the collar off, put them on a leash and when we head towards the perimeter their brakes come on immediately! You can also block off areas of the yard that you don%26#039;t want them in. When hurricane Isabelle came through we had no power for 3 weeks, the terrain was changed with all the fallen trees, and the underground wire for the fence was damaged and NONE of the kids even tried the fence. As I said earlier, the people who say that it doesn%26#039;t work don%26#039;t know what they are talking about. We have 16 Huskies (17 until we lost one over the summer due to medical reasons), all free to run around, contained in our 6 acre yard. And no I am not a dealer ..... just a satisfied customer with 16 hardheaded Huskies most of them rescued as adults. We can leave them outside unsupervised for hours with no problems. However, we do not leave them outside when we leave the house.

It will not keep other animals out including the neighbor’s brats. Neither will a 6 foot stockade fence ... this I learned when I lived elsewhere and was attacked by a neighbors dog in my backyard. As far as people being scared of dogs, well if a 15 to 20 foot barrier field isn%26#039;t enough, neither would a chain link fence be. Besides, if the pet stays on your property who cares if they are unreasonably scared. As far as a dog running through ... well yes, that could happen, however, with proper training it is unlikely. Huskies have an extremely high prey drive. Where we live we have a lot of wildlife, large and small. The kids will line up along the edge of the field and watch the rabbits, geese, deer etc. They won%26#039;t challenge the fence. The deer and geese have learned where the kids can and cannot go and will stay just outside %26quot;Husky country%26quot;. Sometimes within 5 feet of the kids. As I said it does work. The key is training. That is the most important part of the installation of the fence.

Some people advocate the “wireless” type of fence. You have little control over the coverage area. The other problem with them is %26quot;dead%26quot; areas caused by obstructions to the signal by things in your walls, trees and even a parked car. Your dog WILL find these areas.

Others advocate tying a pet out “because “invisible” fences are so cruel!” Or “why do you want to electrocute your dog?”, however, think about what could your pet do if attacked by another animal while tied? Where is he going to go to get away? At least with an “invisible” fence or a conventional fence he has a decent chance of evading an attacker or fighting back.

Please note though ..... you MUST not leave your dog out 24/7 with the collar on. You MUST bring him in at night and remove the collar. If you do not remove the collar he WILL most likely develop sores were the probes contact the skin which can become infected quickly opening a whole new can of worms.

25 years of being owned by Siberian Huskies. I currently have 16 Huskies most of whom were rescued by us from people who didn’t know what they were getting into|||Do you not have a safe area to run your dogs?

Do they not have a reliable recall? I would be training that first and foremost before resorting to one of these devises.

Also maybe someone can help but how do these systems prevent other animals, people, whatever getting on to your property and attacking stealing the dogs? If you are out with them all the time - why not train a reliable recall instead?

Surely at the moment it would be better to leash them and walk them for a good long walk rather than take the risk around traffic?|||I have 2 Italian Greyhounds and they are reckless, We got them the training collar and they have done wonderfully, my little boy won%26#039;t even go near the road or our fence, he plays in the front yard with my daughter. It really depends on the dog, if they listen to basic commands, try the collar....If not the fence may be your only option.|||GET A NORMAL FENCE!! If the dog wants to badly enough a training collar or underground fence will not stop him from going. I have a fence that seperates me and my neighbors back yards,who is the one that is responsible to replace the fence?|||Is it on your side of the property line or their%26#039;s. If on your side it is your cost and if on their side it is their cost. If it is directly on the property line you need to approach them in a friendly manner and discuss splitting the cost of maintaining the fence. If they refuse and you really want it fixed or maintained you will have to suck up the cost.|||The responsible party is the one that has the fence on their side of the property line. This is usually the person who put the fence up. If there is a question about the property line then check with your local tax assessor. The honorable thing to do is to work with your neighbor. Since both of you share the benefits of the fence, you should share some of the cost along with the design.|||Both of you pay for it.|||both of you|||Depends who%26#039;s property it is on. What company is the actual manufacturer of high-quality low-visibility polypropylene deer fencing.?

I beleive there%26#039;s only one major manufacturer for the high quality material. Not the stuff that%26#039;s in garden centers, home depot, lowes, etc. Anyone know what company it is?|||All of the world鈥檚 high-quality low-visibility polypropylene deer fencing is made by a single producer. This is the same fencing installed by professionals (landscapers, fence companies, deer exclusion experts) pretty nearly everywhere, and it is very different from the deer fencing offered by mass marketers. We offer this fence at rock-bottom prices, together with prompt shipment from warehouses in Detroit and Maryland.

Dog fencing for a very uneven wooded area?

What would be the best type of fencing for a very uneven wooded area (with trees, rocks, banks,plants galore) that would keep dogs in? Preferably something metal.

Thanks!

(Durability and effectiveness matters most, then price, and looks is last, as long as it doesn%26#039;t look like a prison, lol)

Thanks again!|||The answer to your fencing problem may be an electric field fence where the dog wears a collar and is deterred from going through the electric field. There is actually no fence there it is an invisable electric field.This copes with uneven ground and trees etc. does not harm or hurt dog and they quickly learn where is out of bounds etc.

It keeps my lab in and my neighbors 2 BIG dogs out. My yard is hilly and the wire forms to the lay of the land well. We need to create a smaller kennel area and we will use this kind of material there too.

A different neighbor tried the wireless fence but it doesn%26#039;t work in our area because the gophers chew through the wire.

Good luck.|||Chain link is what comes to my mind but, unless you get someone to do it for you you are looking at a heck of a lot of work. It would do the job in a location such as yours and is durable as well as economical (except for the installation expense). It also doesn%26#039;t look TERRIBLE, comes in many heights, and could be planted with a vining plant such as an ivy or honeysuckle to make it more appealing.

Does anyone know of a good landscape gardener to put some new fencing up in my garden.?

Economical fencing a horse will respect?

I am looking at buying some property and will need to put up fencing. I currently have 2 horses and one can not be very respectful to fencing. He%26#039;s a 2000lb belgian gelding to boot. I think it goes on T-posts.....|||electrical tape fencing next the fencing of your choice will usually make any horse respect the fence.|||electric tape/ wire/ cord by itself or alongside a fence of your choice|||I too like the combo panels, they typically run 16 foot and we place a post every 8 feet. Here we have several types of fencing, our interior fencing is wood rail, 2x6 boards, the dividing fencing is done in the 2%26quot; wide electrical tape and we have the combos, not much of that yet as it is something we are converting our exterior boarders with. They have a neat and clean appearance and really hold up well, the horses would literally have to %26quot;crash the fence%26quot; or your posts too rot out in order to worry about any sort of repair. The rail fencing is not too terribly expensive, even with a hot wire run they still manage to destroy them and then the painting of the fence.... it looks nice but the up keep is not the best. The white tape can fail from time to time, the clips get brittle and break and then the fence sags, so you have to keep a close eye on that stuff. I would not recommend that for exterior fencing. I too would like pipe... but I%26#039;m not that rich either, lol.|||i have the same idear as the otherperson above me with the hot rope and when they have got zapped enough times they will stay away from it we have a hot rope around some of our paddocks and our horses now dont evern touch the fence now

best regards nina|||We have electric rope from Premier. You can look them up on the internet. It is very safe yet teaches a horse respect. It looks like white rope but it has wires that are braided through it to transport the electricity. I had one horse who like to rub fences all the time and once I put this up, she never touched the fence again. Because the rope is white, it is also very visible (even at night) and your horse will most likely not run into it by mistake. I also liked how easy it was to put up. It only took us two hours and the fence was up completely. Hope I helped.|||We have hot-wire - which is economical and the horses respect it. Just be certain that you do not use barb wire! It is dangerous for horses.|||they make electrical fencing that comes in different widths, get the thickest width there is, he should be able to see it, and one lil shock will make him respect it :o) and if later on down the road, if you decide to put up pipe fencing or anyother kind of fencing, you can put a strand of the electrical on the inside of the top rail, that way you get the good looks of the real fence without your boy messin with it

lil advice, if you ever decided to put up real fence with the strand of electrical on the inside top rail, please please dont forget about it and try climbing the fence, god knows ive done that before and man it sucks!! we had electrical then went to the white plastic and had the strand on the inside, i had forgot that we did that, and went to climb the fence, got zapped and fell, however my leg got caught in the electrical fence, and it was a constant zap for about 2 minutes until my dad stopped laughing and helped me. BE CAREFUL!! LOL|||I have 5 big warmblood and draft crosses, and they all stop at the electric we have up! It%26#039;s the wide white tape that you can easily see, and we have a hot box in the barn to charge it. NO ONE hits it twice. I introduce all my new horses to it by letting them walk into it, they practically do a backflip when they hit it and that%26#039;s it, no one tries again. I do have one mare who knows when the box isn%26#039;t on, so you have to make sure it%26#039;s really hot when they%26#039;re out there.

You do need to put t posts every so often as well as the electric fence posts for support. Don%26#039;t get a solar charged hot box, it doesn%26#039;t carry the juice and they will walk it right down.

Should I choose to do fencing or continue kendo?

In a few months, I am going to McGill where they offer both fencing as well as kendo as student run sports. I have done kendo for about 4-5 years (I stopped about 4 years ago) and have achieved 1 dan, or 1st rank black belt. I have never done fencing before but would love to learn it. Should I continue with kendo or start fencing?|||Personally I think you could do both, but if you had to chose one only, I would continue with Kendo.

When you started Kendo, you were walking down a path in a martial art, and to achieve shodan already, that is no thing to just toss aside in my opinion. Kendo has far greater discipline and tradition, and to me, holds much more value than Fencing does.

Fencing is fun, don%26#039;t get me wrong, but it%26#039;s a sport, not a martial art, and when you%26#039;re 80, you%26#039;re not exactly going to be able to fence with arthritis, but you can still play kendo, and be a hachidan (^^v if you work hard) and have massive amount of respect from your kouhai, instead of being a %26#039;has been%26#039; in Fencing.|||FENCING ITS SOO COOL

About how much would it cost to buy and install 120 yards of iron fencing?

I%26#039;m thinking about 5-6 feet high, iron (or other black metal-esque material, whatever%26#039;s commonly used) fence to keep dogs in the yard. The yard%26#039;s pretty big and part of it%26#039;s on a hill, so the fence would need to go up a hill if that%26#039;s relevant.|||Steel is very high expensive now, the fact that you stated that it has to go up hill also makes it a very special build since the Iron work will have to follow the grade. Most Ornamental Iron fence companies powder coat the fencing rather than painting which also cost more money. The design your looking for seems simple not very custom. When determining a price the material size is very important. for example 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 frame .095 wall 3/4%26quot; pickets .065 2%26quot; x 2%26quot; line posts .120 etc. then the gate, lock type,hinge type etc.

For a custom fence you will be a minimum $ 10,800.00 the way that I would suggest about $17,000.00.|||I sold about 300 feet of used wrought iron fence 6 feet three months ago and got 3000 dollars for it. it is really expensive to purchase new especially if it is special order from a black smith.

Does concrete block fencing keep snakes out?

I am thinking about moving back to Arizona, but i am worried about rattlesnakes, scorpions and a lot of other things. Does anyone live in Arizona that has a concrete fence? Best is Education - understand the nature of the critters and thereby understanding where they might move into %26quot;your zone%26quot;.

Rattlesnakes are nocturnal by nature. Higher risk of incidence is Brown recluse %26amp; Black Widow spiders.

Scorpions are also nocturnal and hide under rocks, etc during the day - but they will move into a house to avoid scorching sun too.|||I live in Las Vegas and I don%26#039;t think a block wall is foolproof, but it might help with the snake issue. Generally, Once the people move in, the critters move out. If its a rural area, maybe you could get some peacocks or some birds that will feed on the critters if they come around. Cats will kill snakes too.|||Snakes nest underground, so they can burrow under anything you build if they want. The wall will definitely deter them, but you are moving to snake country. I%26#039;d be pissed if you built a house in my backyard and so is the wildlife.|||Have not lived in Arizona but have been there many times (work related -- gardener / housekeeper). Concrete, or cinder blocks do not prevent burrowing critters from going where they want. Might deter them but not prevent. Living in a desert environment, you must educate your children. How do I calculate dimensions for DIY privacy fencing for my back yard only?

By back yard I mean from rear corners of house to back property line.|||Are you asking how to calc the amount of materials?

Measure the length.

You will need 4%26quot;X4%26quot; post about evey 6 feet. 8%26#039; spacing may suffice. Work out any difference for the corners or ends.

You will need 2%26quot; X 4%26quot; for the entire length, twice. One near the top, one near the bottom in order to nail the panels.

Buy the 2%26quot; X 4%26quot; the same length as the spacing of the posts, or a length that can be cut evenly in the correct lengths, in order to save waste.

If you plan to fence in the other direction, you should set two posts at the corner at the same time.

Anchor the posts in concrete.

If you use 8%26quot; panels, consider that 3 panels = 24%26quot; or two feet.

So every 2 feet needs 3 panels.

If the panels are 6%26quot;, you%26#039;ll need 2 for every foot.

My last suggestion is to use a board at the bottom, run lengthwise and place the panels flush to that board. This will prevent your panels from touching the ground and subject to rot. You then do not have to replace panels if they rot, and need only to replace the bottom boards as needed.

Consider the extra lumber for this.|||do you mean dimensions or a materials list? if it is dimensions, stake out the area you want the fence to be (check with you local municipality to determine the required set-back from your property line) then measure from the house to the first stake then from stake to stake until you get back to the other side of the house. this will give you the total linear feet of fencing needed.

many diy center%26#039;s have software that can calculate exact material lists with cost that you can use for free. most will help you with using the software. check with home depot, lowes etc...

for a materials list, it will all depend on the kind of fence you want to install, but all will be dependent on the total linear feet of fencing needed. then the number of corner posts, length between posts (normally 8 foot on center but can be less), number of %26amp; location of gates and the height and design of fence etc...

What is the cost of fencing my yard?

I was just looking for a ballpark figure to have a fence put up in my yard. I want a 6%26#039; tall stockade fence. I have about 350 feet to cover. I just need a basic idea of what it would cost|||The typical cost of privacy fence in the Waco, Texas area is as follows:

ALL Cedar rails and pickets = $11.75 per foot. = $4112.50

ALL Pressure treated rails and pickets = $2975.00

Both estimates include all materials and labor to install.

The best fence is the cedar, It does not warp and twist like other materials and holds the natural color longer.

The pressure treated fence is less expensive but tends to warp and discolor quickly.

The PRE-BUILT fence panels are not a good choice at all. They are poorly built and the materials rott and warp very rapidly. and we do not recommend this type of fence at all|||Each State has various costs for home maintenance. Simply call up a few fencing companies and ask how much per foot it would cost.|||fences are expensive I know we priced vinyl fencing for our 1/3 of an acre around our house and our estimate came in at $5200

What side am I responsible for when replacing fencing in my garden?

MY Neighbor installed the Fence we share before I bought my home. He told me I can paint my side any color I wanted to but he really did not want Vines or anything growing up on it. If this is a Fence that was installed by the Builder of the surrounding propertys, then it would be considered shared property. You would be responsible for anything on your property, or on %26quot;your%26quot; side of the property.|||normally your fence has the posts on your side but some are shared and some don%26#039;t fit this - talk to your neighbour or check your deeds|||There is no one perfect answer for this question.Each state, local ,town, village,city has different laws and in some cases none to cover ownership, maintance, up keep, .

Your local code enforcement or building inspector will have the answer.

Even with set back from property lines if you are the owner you may have to notify the neighbor that you are going to a repair to their side. Some zoning laws do not allow full replacement with out a permit to remove and replace so be careful. You may be right on the line now but not able to replace back on the line once removed.

Most will let you maintane or do repairs without permits or legal issues but to go beyond this may require much more.

There are some areas that say a fence belongs to both parties and must be paid for by both parties usually in this case the true owner owns the first half of the fence and the neighbor the second. Should work be required the first owner must notify the second party that he or she is preparing to do work on said fence. This is done in writing and served on the second party with a thirty day required request returned in writing. Should the second party not reply then the first party can proceed with a notice of when this work will be done and the second party can willing contribute toward this or if refusing then can be libel for the total bill of both halfs. Either way most fences require that the best side face toward the neighbor or be equal in appearance.|||I think it is to the right, although I can%26#039;t swear to it. What is the best way to train a puppy with invisible fencing?

all suggestions welcome, this is for a friend, she has the fence, she tried to train her chihuahua mix puppy and when he got too close and got a little shock it broke her heart and is now thinking of ripping it out, i gave her all the clues i could, i used the fence with my rotties, big difference in chihuahua, it worked great, thanks|||As long as the dog is above the weight requirement and old enough (most say 6 months), an invisible fence should be fine. Did your friend do all the training steps the way that the fence manufacturer says? You have to start out with the warning flags and have the dog on leash and teach the dog %26quot;the retreat pattern,%26quot; i.e. to turn back when it hears the warning sound or feels a shock. You have to take your dog up to the boundary and teach it to turn around before it gets shocked.

One thing to try is to turn up the boundary warning zone on the fence. My model of fence allows me to do this. You can make the warning zone larger so the dog gets more warning time before actually getting shocked.

Another thing to try is to turn down the shock level. Many models allow you to change the intensity of the shock. You want the dog to feel it, but it shouldn%26#039;t be horrible. And with a small dog, you might want it on a lower setting.

All that being said, I do think it%26#039;s helpful if the dog is shocked once. Then they connect the warning sound with the shock and realize from then onwards that the warning sound means they will get shocked. Then they respect the fence because they know what it means. If your friends trains the fence correctly, there%26#039;s no reason the dog has to be shocked again.

Tell your friend to increase the boundary warning zone, decrease the shock intensity, and continue to train the dog. Train on leash until the dog understands what the fence is, that way she can pull it back into the yard instead of getting shocked repeatedly.|||Put him on a leash and walk him all around the yard where the fence is and when you hear the beep you pull him back and say no. A couple little shocks is heartbreaking but it does work. It takes time but it is a great thing.|||Ugh -- have her rip it out! I HATE electric fences, for a number of reasons (see articles below). Plus, there is NO reason for a dog this little to be outside unattended (the main reasons people put in underground electric fencing) -- that%26#039;s just asking for thieves, predators, bigger dogs, etc., to get her.|||Well, if your friend can%26#039;t handle seeing the dog shocked and %26quot;rips the fence out%26quot;, sorry, but she%26#039;s an idiot.

The dog has to receive the shock at some point.

I have a Chihuahua and an invisible fence. It works just fine, but at some point, the dog has got to receive the shock.

Your friend is going to rip out this fence because the dog gets shocked? Why did she buy it in the first place? Also, babying her pwecious widdle doggie this way, will result in the dog%26#039;s untimely death when, because there%26#039;s no fence, the dog runs into the road and gets hit by a car.

My dog loves her fence. She has been shocked maybe 3 times, now, sometimes when I let her out, I don%26#039;t even put her collar on. She knows her boundaries.|||The cumulative effects of a dog being shocked, over and over, have not been published - but I%26#039;m sure that is not good for a dog. Additionally, those collars malfunction and will punish the dog for no reason. Your friend%26#039;s right in getting rid of that horrible device.

You can totally go into fencing or martial arts, all you have to do is do your best.

You can use the internet, a phone book, and any other way you might go about finding something in your community. Then contact the instructor, and get started.

Your hearing loss would be your main obstacle, but don%26#039;t let it bring you down! When contacting the instructor of a particular dojo, you need to bring that up. I%26#039;m sure you%26#039;ll be able to find a solution. After all, you don%26#039;t need to hear to learn, and martial arts is no exception. As you said, strength can be attained, but balance can too. As you train, you balance will get better. There are balance exersises that can help, and some are even fun. If you have a Nintendo Wii, the game Wii fit can be used, as it comes with a %26quot;balance board%26quot; and has many exercises like skiing that increase your balance and coordination.

I have a field which has 6 sides. One %26#039;corner%26#039; has an interior angle of about 270 degrees. None of the corners are of 90 degrees. The fences enclose three acres (say, 10,000 sq meters). I challenge anyone to calculate the length of fence that I need to maintain!|||This kind of problem is a multi-step process.

Step 1

Call the perimeter of the area P.

Assuming that the area is a rectangle, the formula for the perimeter is

P = 2L + 2W.

Now, they give us P = 220. Put that into the equation.

220 = 2L + 2W

Solve for W.

Subtract 2L from both sides.

220 - 2L = 2L + 2W - 2L

220 - 2L = 2W

Divide by 2.

(220 - 2L)/2 = 2W/2

(220 - 2L)/2 = W

****************************

Step 2

The formula for the area of a rectangle is

A = LW.

We know what W looks like from Step 1. Put that expression into the equation for the area.

A = L (220 - 2L)/2

Distribute the L across the parentheses.

A = (220L - 2L^2)/2

They told us that the area is 2500. Put that value into the equation.(I%26#039;m ignoring all of the meter stuff right now. We%26#039;ll put that in at the end.)

2500 = (220L - 2L^2)/2

Multiply both sides by 2.

2(2500) = 2 [ (220L - 2L^2)/2 ]

5000 = 220L - 2L^2

Add 2L^2 to both sides.

5000 + 2L^2 = 220L - 2L^2 + 2L^2

5000 + 2L^2 = 220L

Subtract 220L from both sides.

5000 + 2L^2 - 220L = 220L - 220L

5000 + 2L^2 - 220L = 0

Rewrite for ease of solving a quadratic.

2L^2 - 220L + 5000 = 0

This next series of steps are optional, but will make the problem simpler to solve.

Factor 2 out of the terms on the left hand side.

2 (L^2 - 110L + 2500) = 0

Divide both sides by 2.

[2 (L^2 - 110L + 2500)] / 2 = 0 / 2

L^2 - 110L + 2500 = 0

*************************************

Step 3

Use the Quadratic Formula to solve for L.

L = [ -B +- sq_rt (B^2 - 4AC) ] / 2A

Here, A = 1, B = -110, C = 2500 and +- means %26quot;plus or minus.%26quot; So...

L = [ -(-110) +- sq_rt ( (-110)^2 - 4(1)(2500) ] / 2(1)

L = [ 110 +- sq_rt ( 12100 - 10000 ] / 2

L = [ 110 +- sq_rt ( 12100 - 10000 ] / 2

L = [ 110 +- sq_rt ( 2100 ) ] / 2

Now, sq_rt ( 2100 ) = sq_rt [ (21)(100 ) ]

= 10 sq_rt (21).

Now we have...

L = [ 110 +- 10 sq_rt (21) ] / 2

Factor out a 2 from the terms in the numerator. It will cancel out the 2 in the denominator.

L = 2 [ 55 +- 5 sq_rt (21) ] / 2

L = 55 +- 5 sq_rt (21)

We have 2 possibilities.

L = 55 + 5 sq_rt (21)

or

L = 55 - 5 sq_rt (21)

Note: 5 sq_rt (21) = 5(4.58) = 22.9, approximately.

We now have...

L = 55 + 22.9 = 77.9

or

L = 55 - 22.9 = 32.1.

***********************************

Step 4

If L = 55 + 22.9 = 77.9,

then

A = LW means that 2500 = 77.9 W.

Divide by 77.9 on both sides.

2500/77.9 = 77.9 W / 77.9

32.09 = W.

If L = 55 - 22.9 = 32.1,

then

A = LW means that 2500 = 32.1 W.

Divide both sides by 32.1.

2500/32.1 = 32.1 W / 32.1

77.88 = W.

Note that the pairs of values are very close. (77.88 is almost 77.9 and

32.09 is almost 32.1.)

L = 77.9 W = 32.09

L = 32.1 W = 77.88.

Since length is understood to be larger than width,

I%26#039;m not sure whether your teacher wants to see decimal approximations or not, but I%26#039;d take the following as the answer:

L = 77.9 W = 32.09

Can any one please tell me the meaning of PITCHING or PITCH used in civil construction or construction of wire mesh fencing. The meaning of the term %26amp; where can i find more solutions on pitching.|||Pitch is simply tar. I guess you could pitch some types of metal wire for weather protection, but would have thought the common plastic coating was much less trouble.

Why do the athletes for fencing yell when points are given?

I was watching the Olympics earlier in the week and had an odd question. Why is it when an athlete is given a point after a hit, they yell? |||As a high level fencer myself, I%26#039;m going to have to disagree with many of these answers, to a fair extent. The most common reason for a fencer to scream is to express their emotion after scoring the touch. Fencing does involve a lot of thinking, and movement, in each touch, and a lot of excitement and passion comes out when it proves successful. As someone said before, it is sort of similar to karate, but it%26#039;s not a specific part of the form in fencing, and for most fencers it%26#039;s not a completely conscious action. Especially at such a high level, the pressure is incredibly intense, just one-on-one with your opponent, and screaming after a touch is one way to calm yourself down a bit, or, if needed, keep the momentum.

At a high level, I%26#039;d have to disagree with what someone said before about using screaming to %26quot;scare%26quot; or intimidate an opponent; again, it%26#039;s hard to control, and no one really does it to be malicious. Screaming at an opponent might just anger them enough to get them motivated! Some fencers might try to use a scream to convince a referee to award them the touch on a close call, but it rarely works with high level referees and video replay.

Overall, it%26#039;s not really used for any malicious purpose, but mainly to celebrate and express yourself after a touch.|||Yelling is a tactic fencers use to provoke their rivals in a match. If a fencer yells, they are placing anger, fear and jealousy in the rival fencer. It%26#039;s a psychological war. For example if a fencer gains a point and they yell, the rival fencer will feel anger because they lost the point and jealousy because the fencer got the point and not themselves. Also, if a yell is powerful enough, fear can be produced as a result. I guess that sometimes a fencer is just happy they won the point and what better way to celebrate than yell? |||It is a poor sportmanship habbit that has built up over the pass 20 years or so in many areas and bad protocol.

The biggest complaint for many years in fencing is the public does not understand the sport and scoring so they do not pay attention and it makes poor broadcasting. So the fight between the purists and the flamboyant has many in-fighting looking for ways to make the sport more appealing to the TV and general public. They were talking about it yesterday on the telly and the girl said it sounds like cats doing it in an alley. Fencers yell like in karate, to focus their bodies at the point of the sword. There%26#039;s a word for this, it%26#039;s called a kiei (pronounced KEY-eye).|||I think maybe because they think they got a point. What do I need to get started in the sport of fencing?

I%26#039;ve wanted to fence for many years, but it ain%26#039;t happenin%26#039; yet! I%26#039;d like to know a few things, however, and be prepared if I%26#039;m able to actually afford it someday! :)

What equipment will I need and how much will it cost?

What skills will I be needing and how do I improve them?

What muscles need to be built up and which exercises should I do?

Thanks so much for your help!|||First, you should find a fencing club in your area, you would be surprised where they are at!!

What you will need, will depend on which weapon you take up. There are 3; Foil, Epee, and Sabre. All require different swords, Epee requires knickers, long knee socks, fencing jacket along with a mask, glove and fencing shoes. For foil you need to add an electric vest. For Sabre you will need to add an electric jacket. Sabre has a different mask from Foil and Epee.

Most clubs will loan you the outfits and swords for the first month, and then should be able to help you find your equipment.

Best work outs are building your legs and arm muscles and stamina. Running, soccer, basketball is a great way to start. In the gym, grab a trainer and have them show you the best machines to build strong leg muscles and strong arm muscles. You will be doing a lot of lunges and extensions. It is VERY important to learn to stretch properly.

Fencing is a STRONG mental game as well as physical. It%26#039;s like playing a mental/physical chess, except that you have to think FAST.

What are the steps in backyard fencing?

We just closed our first home. As a first project we want to erect a fence on the backyard. What are the steps to achieve this. Do I first contact the local service to mark how far the fence should be then shop for types of fences. Can this be DIY as well or a upon getting a fence we can also contract someone to place it.|||We recently did this - we first called the survey company that did the survey when we purchased the house, and asked them to send us a copy of the survey (they did this for free). Then, we decided to have a fencing company install it b/c after researching it, we realized that it was not an easy DIY project. You have to dig the postholes, pour concrete in them, plant the posts (at the proper depth and distance apart), build the fence, and make sure it is level. Ugh - that seemed like a pain. We had a reputable company install a vinyl fence and it is guaranteed against wind damage up to 100mph! You don%26#039;t get that kind of warranty if you install it yourself. So, for us it was worth the extra cost to have it installed (it isn%26#039;t cheap though, it pretty much doubled the cost of what just the materials would have cost). The company we worked with provided both the materials and the installation services. There are also companies that just do the installation...so you could buy the fence at a hardware store and have them install it for you.

Oh yeah - and check with your town because most towns require that you get a permit to install a fence.

Good luck!|||1st, call a surveyor if the property line is not marked. The last thing you%26#039;ll want is a neighbor who makes you take down a newly-built fence that you accidentally placed off the property line.

Then decide on the style of fence you want. I%26#039;d look in gardening magazines and the library for %26quot;HOW TO%26quot; books on the subject. Maybe Fine Wood Working or Fine Home Building magazine has articles.

Last, consult a local building supply or lumber yard as to the cost and life span of the different materials. Redwood is fairly weatherproof. Some folks go for vinyl or PVC, but it%26#039;s not earth-friendly. Maybe you could get some recycled wood at a salvage yard.

Can someone help me out with info on fencing?

I am considering getting either a colorbond, or pinelap fence. Can someone please provide info on the approximate price per metre (Australian Dollar)?

How many feet of fencing would cover an acre of land?

This is probably really obvious, but I%26#039;m not in a clever mood.|||An acre is a measure of area. Fence is a linear measurement. It depends on the shape of the property.

An acre is 43,560 square feet. If it happens to be a square shape each side would be 208 3/4 ft so the total would be 4 times that or 835 ft.

If for example the property was 100 ft x 435.6 ft it would take

2 x 100 + 2 x 435.6 = 1071.2 ft|||835%26#039;

Why you would want to do a circle, I have no clue why he said that but, that would be about 740%26#039;|||is it 3595 feet?, i love hidden answers.|||The least amount of fencing would be a circle encompassing one acre. RScott

Where to go to find out where your property lines are so that you can install fencing in fairfax county,va?

If so, it will be with your settlement papers. If not, call the settlement attorney or agency where the settlement took place and request one.

Otherwise, you will have to hire a surveyor to do the work. But it is a requirement that you be provided a survey when you buy a property in Virginia. |||You have to hire a land survey company. It is pricey, but is the only way to be absolutely sure where your property line begins and your neighbors ends. If you don%26#039;t get one, and measure the land yourself, and you are wrong, and put the fence on their property, (even an inch) you could be made to take it down. Be safe and hire an expert. Price may be between $500 to $1,000 depending on the size of your lot.|||You can either go to the Recorder of Deeds office to get a copy of your plat, or you can go to the County Assessors department to get the boundary lines.

Where can I purchase good, reasonably priced vinyl or wood fencing in St. Louis?

Looking to redo the fence in my yard. Would prefer vinyl if cheap enough; otherwise, wood is fine. I can install myself. Where is the best place to purchase?|||If you live close to a Home Depot or Lowes you should have no problem finding what you want. If you cant find it in the store they will probably special order it for you.|||Well you get what you pay for but theres a few places, some sell quality, if you want cheap sticking with home depot or lowes will perhaps be best. James is fencing a rectangular field that measures 25 ft by 21 ft. How much fencing should he buy?

I am not asking for the answer, just help! I know that you find the are of a rectangle by multiplying its length times width.....so is that how you get the answer? I know this is basic but I suck at math.|||The rectangle has four sides...2 sides are 25ft and 2 sides are 21ft...So to figure out the linear feet James needs to buy, simply add 25+25+21+21 and the answer is how much fence he needs.

EDIT: Multiping 25 x 21 will give you the square footage not the linear feet.|||Find the Perimeter of the rectangle.Thats the total fencing to buy

P=2(L+b)

P=2(25+21)

P=2*46=92 Ft|||people are giving you conflicting answers. just think about this... does the fence need to cover the perimeter or the whole area of the rectangle?|||Yes, that is how you get the answer.|||Indeed, the area (in square feet) = L x W.

However, to determine the length of fencing that James needs to buy, you would need to calculate the perimeter of the field.

Perimeter = 2L + 2W

2(25) + 2(21) = 50 + 42 = 92 ft

These are linear (not square) feet.|||yes thats how dude

Would barbed wire fencing work for pygmy goats?

I need to build an inexpensive fence that will keep in two horses, and some pygmy goats. I though barbed wire would work unless the goats got tangled up?|||I would not recommend it for horses or goats. The goats especially will probably cut themselves to pieces trying to get out. I have goats fence for mine that they have found several places to get out underneath it and have cut their ears up trying to push through. As bad as mine look after trying to get out of goat fence I would hate too see them try to get out of barbed wire fence.|||I have goats and a mini horse, but I keep them separate. I use panel fencing for my horse and for the goats I use hog wire (It was cheap) and two strands of electric fencing (also cheap) on the inside of the hog wire. They are fine when the electric fence is on, but the goats constantly test the fence and know when it is off. When it is off, they stick their heads through the hog wire and always get them stuck. I have to keep cutting the wire to free their heads and fix the fence. I would find the cheapest, but strongest wire possible (for the price) and use electric fencing on the inside of it. I think if you used barbed wire they would find a way to get stuck in it- they always do- and if they did, it wouldn%26#039;t end well. A fence doesn%26#039;t (and shouldn%26#039;t) be expensive for them. They are always going to find a way out and it is easier, and less expensive, to fix a fence than it is to keep buying livestock panels every time you have to cut one to free one of the goat%26#039;s heads- trust me, I used to have my whole pasture fenced in with livestock panels- not worth it with goats. I hope this helped, good luck!|||Small goats can get through the smallest of spaces, I would recommend small page wire....|||Generally speaking any type of wire fencing doesn%26#039;t work well for any goats. I%26#039;d try cattle panels or combination panels. They are expensive though. But nothing less than that will keep the goats in. We have one area of goat fencing that%26#039;s basically solid to keep the kids in.|||Get a smaller squared page wire it will keep the goats from getting through and the horses from get cut up (if they got caught in the bw).|||There is a lot said that barbed wire is not desirable as horse fencing. I have seen some pretty gruesome injuries from BW, but some of my fencing is still barbed, and I haven%26#039;t had any (knock on wood) injuries. That said, pygmy goats can be real houdinis, and I would think it probably won%26#039;t be inexpensive to run enough strands of barbed wire to successfully keep them in. Any chance of doing a small lot for the goats out of woven wire farm fencing or livestock panels?

Is it ok to set concrete fencing posts while it is raining?

I am setting 4x4x8 posts for privacey fence and its going to be raining on and off. I am setting 4x4x8 posts for privacey fence and its going to be raining on and off. Is it ok to set these posts while it is raining?|||I see no problem as long as it isn%26#039;t raining hard enough to affect the concrete mixture. Concrete dries harder when it is exposed to high moisture.|||Yes. It would be easier for you to dig though if there is a little moisture in the ground, but not so dry that it will be twice as hard to dig.

Without fencing my dog in the kitchen how can I get her to eat above her dish?

My dog only eats dry, chunk food. She will not eat on a schedule. Her dish is in my kitchen and she doesn%26#039;t like the slick floor. So I laid down a mat under her dish. She grabs a chunk and takes it to eat on the carpet which gets crumbs everywhere. Since she%26#039;s not on a schedule I can%26#039;t block the kitchen entry until she eats.|||My dog doesn%26#039;t eat on a schedule either. What I have done is instead of feeding her at her normal feeding time I take her for a long walk and usually she is ready to eat by the time we get back. This doesn%26#039;t always work though. I wouldn%26#039;t worry about your dog leaving crumbs on the floor because they won%26#039;t stay there forever. It is a dog, they are hunters and love finding crumbs. So, I guess what I am saying is there%26#039;s no need to leave the dog in the kitchen, the crumbs won%26#039;t stay on your rug and give the pooch a good belly rub!|||Make her get on a schedule. That%26#039;s what all the books say%26amp; my vet said it too. Dogs should eat 1 x a day prefably the same time every day %26amp; the same amt everyday. This gives the length of one of the sides. Multiply that by 4 to get the perimeter.|||1 acre is 210 feet, times that by 30 = 6300 feet, and thats just one side. What is the cattle fencing laws in illinois? Who is responsible to fix the fence if there cattle gets out?

Who owns the fence? Was it improperly maintained or did the cattle break a properly maintained fence? The law is not as simple as you pretend.

If you want to read the Illinois fence statute, you can link to it here:

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilc...|||the universally understood practice where i live is-- the owner of the cows that are getting out is responsible for fixing the fence.

if crops are being damaged, and the cattle owner is too slow to fix, the invaded landowner can fix the fence and recover repair expenses and crop damage from the cattle owner.

it generally causes major rifts between neighbors to have to go to court to recover these expenses. use as a last resort only.|||I don%26#039;t know the law exactly in Illinois. I would think the owner of the property and or the owner of the cattle if they are one and the same. I would at least start with the property owner first. And definately check with someone who would know on that.

What types of dogs are least likely to 'roam' and need the least fencing? - thanks.?

We have 17 acres and would like to have minimal fencing, without the dog harassing the neighbors. Thanks.|||Well it would take some training, regardless of breed. I would say a Retriever, there pretty loyal and tend to stick close to home.|||teacup poodle|||:/ stuffed dogs.|||It%26#039;s easier to fence in a small dog than a large dog; as for being likely to roam, it really depends on the individual personality of the dog. In general, the smarter dog breeds are more likely to get into mischief.|||german shepherds are loyal and obedient if trained at a young age [:

basset hounds wander and usually come back (:|||Boston Terriers!|||hounds usually will wander to expore diiferent sounds and smells. other sporting breeds like labs are like that too. small dogs are usually stupid and dont understand the concept of staying at home. guard dogs such as german shepards and rottweilers are usually good about staying nearby. calm breeds like golden retreivers are pretty good too. but breed isn%26#039;t everything. you might find a german shepard who likes to run all over the place or a lab who just wants to sleep on the back porch. i would pick a breed that has a strong sense of territory like a collie or guard type dog, then whe you go to choose the actual puppy or dog, make sure its not too hyper or energetic. pick one that seems to sleep a lot and likes to lay by you and have its ears scratched. that kind of personality probably wont stray far from you and its home|||DEFINITELY not a Husky. no matter what that answerer tells you -- huskies have a high prey drive and they will run away to hunt what they want.

retrievers and herders are usually very good, obedient, loyal dogs. with correct training, they%26#039;ll listen to everything you say and won%26#039;t leave your territory.|||i have a little miniature beagle and when im outside he stays in my eye site and when i go inside he stays pretty close to the house. my neighbors are like an acre away and he doesn%26#039;t even go close to them.|||It%26#039;s going to take training no matter what breed you get.

I%26#039;m going to say now I%26#039;d advise you to stay away from any scent hounds (beagles, bassets, bloodhounds etc.) As they%26#039;ll stick their nose to the ground and be gone.

Huskies tend to be huge runners as well.

I would say either Labradors, border collies, or any other breed known for it%26#039;s loyalty.

I had a border collie once that we adopted at 6 years old, and she never left the yard unless we took her on the leash.

Same holds true with my new border collie, and my older golden retriever.

My beagle however, tends to like to run.|||labs bigger the lab mellower the dog|||any dog if u train it if u want it to come back do somthing fun likr run or la on da ground|||Stay away from the hounds, both sight and scent hounds as they are often enticed to roam by sights and smells. Also, the sledding breeds have a tendancy to roam.

The herding dogs and some of the retrievers can be homebodies if trained the boundaries.

Whatever breed you choose, it must be taught what the boundaries are. Some individual dogs pick this up easily, and some dogs take more time.

You mentioned small dogs in another answer, They can be kept in the house and accompanied outside.

For the larger breeds, I would recommend that when you leave the property to contain them either in the house or a nice large kennel run with shelter. This is not keep them in all the time as any dog would love 17 acres to own. Just when you are not home. That way the dog is still secure in case it gets bored and goes looking for you. This can be done with minimal fencing.

Corgis, cattle dogs, and Australian shepherds are very popular with all the horse people around where I live. When TRAINED they seem to just hang out with everyone and don%26#039;t wander off. The corgis %26amp; cattle dogs are also very portable due to their size.

Good luck looking for the right dog|||Save yourself some heartache and just fence the yard. We had a dog trained to never wander out of our yard, and had no trouble from him for years, until the day he wandered into the road and got hit by a car. It turned out he was blind, and couldn%26#039;t see the boundaries of the yard anymore. never again will we let one outside the fence.|||i was going to say %26quot;not huskies%26quot;. because my husky likes to run, but she doesn%26#039;t harass my neighbors and she always comes home. i think 17 acres would be good|||Herding dogs will almost never run away. They are nick named velcro dogs. Like border collies, cattle dogs, corgi%26#039;s, kelpi%26#039;s etc.. Although they do require some training like any dog would. They also need some specialized training like agility, frisbee, or fly-ball. They need a %26quot;job%26quot; or strenuous activity to do or they get easily bored and destructive.

Definitely not any type of hunting dog or small game dog. Like terriers, beagles, hounds, retrievers, jack russels etc.. They have a strong prey drive and will run after anything.

Other dogs that were originally bred as working dogs like doberman, rott, shepard, can be trained to stay within certain boundaries but i would recommend getting specialized training with a dog trainer for this.|||Probably your worst choice would be anything in the hound group, Beagles especially, as they follow their (excellent) noses.

Is it possible to add wooden fencing to my brick wall to make it higher?

I have a 4 1/2 foot brick wall which I want to make around 6ft high and have decided using fence panels will be the most effective way of doing this as far as price is concerned.

I am after some advice on the best method of attaching the panels to the brick wall.|||How you would attatch the fence panels depends on how the wall is capped. If the wall is capped with concrete , I would think you could use concrete screws with fender washers to hold the panels in place.

The brand of screws I use are called Tap-con. They come with a pilot drill bit that makes the hole for the screw, then the screws are driven with a hex head bit or a screwdriver. They go in easier with the hex head bit. I%26#039;ve got a link to the tapcons in the source box.|||If the brickwork is sound, this will probably work. Drill holes to mount anchor plates, then screw the wood to the plates.

Is it ok to set concrete fencing posts while it is raining?

I am setting 4x4x8 posts for privacey fence and its going to be raining on and off. Is it ok to set these posts while it is raining?|||Concrete will harden even underwater. In fact, moist-curing concrete makes it stronger, while curing it under unusually dry conditions will weaken it. So a bit of light rain won%26#039;t hurt, particularly after the concrete has been in place for a few hours. However, a driving or heavy rain that hits shortly after the concrete is placed could wash cement particles off the top surface, resulting in a rough and weakened surface. If you%26#039;re setting posts in the rain, a bigger problem is that the sides of your holes may collapse.

Having said all that, setting fence posts in concrete really isn%26#039;t the best method. What happens is that the wood eventually shrinks slightly, leaving a gap between the concrete and the wood that traps moisture, which in turn accelerates rot. It%26#039;s better to use a fast-draining mix of soil and pea gravel (or gravel and stone dust) and tamp it around the post. Here%26#039;s how the pros build a fence:

http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/how-to/i...

If you want a post to last a really long time, try this method:

Is it ok to set concrete fencing posts while it is raining?

I am setting 4x4x8 posts for privacey fence and its going to be raining on and off. Is it ok to set these posts while it is raining?|||As long as it%26#039;s not too heavy, then yes. There is already water in the concrete, so it%26#039;s not going to make a lot of difference. I%26#039;ve done it myself whilst it%26#039;s been raining (fairly heavily) and no probs|||I answered your, er, post over in %26quot;Maintenance %26amp; Repairs%26quot; but here%26#039;s a summary.

Concrete will harden even underwater so a bit of light rain won%26#039;t hurt. However, a driving or heavy rain that hits shortly after the concrete is placed could wash cement particles off the top surface.

But setting fence posts in concrete really isn%26#039;t the best method anyway because it can encourage the posts to rot. Here%26#039;s how the pros build a fence:

Is it ok to set concrete fencing posts while it is raining?

I am setting 4x4x8 posts for privacey fence and its going to be raining on and off. Is it ok to set these posts while it is raining?|||yes, just leave the posts secured with the leveling guy-lines until you are certain the concrete has set.

there will be very little surface area exposed. covering it only helps to slow the drying process, which is not an issue if it is raining/cloudy. the concrete will not be harmed by the rain!|||The reason people use concrete to cement fence posts in the ground is to give is more rigidity. This increases the surface area underneath the ground, making it less likely to shift and move.

You can do this in the rain. The concrete you are adding has no structural value so the water to product ratio does not matter.|||Concrete sets best when it hardens slowly, so it should be watered daily for a few days. But, if it gets %26quot;overly%26quot; wet like in a rain, it will weaken in strength. The best solution is, after you%26#039;ve poured it, cover it with plastic for at least the first 24 hours so direct rain doesn%26#039;t hit it. Then you can remove the plastic and let it rain.|||Yes.

Slope the ground at it should be no problem.

Other Solutions:

Put ON COWBOY HATS!

Duct Tape Umbrellas to the Post!

Tack a 3%26#039; Square Piece of Plywood to the top of the post!|||you can pour concrete under water and it will set up|||Not if you want them to set properly.

Is there a difference between vinyl and wood fencing?

When it comes to adding value to our property, is there a difference? Or is a fence a fence?|||Well the obvious difference is the material of which each is made. One is pressure treated wood and the other is vinyl. Now wood fencing is considerably cheaper than vinyl and for good reason. Wood, no matter if it is treated, will eventually look like #$%26amp;^$!!. So, if you are going to be living in this place for the long haul, it will be in your best interest to go vinyl. I is much more expensive, but it will help you when it comes to resale bec=ause you will not have an old rotted wood fence falling apart. The best thing to do is to drive around some neighborhoods and see for yourself. Look at those older wood fences and see if you want that around your place one day. Now on the other hand, if you are looking to fix up and sell the home, then wood fencing may be an inexpensive means to help you out. good luck!|||Vinyl would probably bring more because you don%26#039;t have to replace boards on it after a few years or stain it.... Just hose it off

What is the best fencing option for dogs?

Strong perfered if it is under $1000. Strong enough to support a small to medium dog (think smaller than a Lab) Please include either some info or site. thanks.|||Depends on if the dog digs or climbs or jumps fences. Different fence options for different breeds of dog and different locations. Along a busy street a wood privacy fence might be the best option. For a medium non jumper a 4%26#039; chain link might be perfect. For a terrier, a fence installed a foot or so underground would help prevent digging under the fence.

EDIT: A chain link with a pole along the top is a pretty safe option unless the dog climbs over it.|||I read your other question but i figured id read this answer cuz not as many people answered this one anyway

A toy Maltese are about 5 pounds At most shed one hair a week [seriously] do not need leashes once they are trained properly [training is very important] and need 3 weeks daily once they are a little older than a year only up and down the street and do not need play once they are 1 year old i suggest not getting a puppy they need to be walked every hour and played with 23/7 and are high mantnes with any bread.|||I hope it%26#039;s a 5%26#039; white vinyl privacy fence cause that%26#039;s what I just got done ordering for my yard! But it was EXPENSIVE. $5500 for 155 linear ft with 2 gates. I don%26#039;t know how many ft you need but maybe wood stockade fencing that you could stain would be a good choice but it has to be at least 4-5 ft. I would have gotten a 6%26#039; but my covenant for my HOA say it has to be 5%26#039; or under.|||Hi Sushi rolls

My personal preference is chain link. Some areas have building codes and you have to abide by them.

I owned a fence company for years, and can give you some great suggestions on fencing %26amp; dogs. If you are interested, send me a e-mail.

If you have footages, I can guestimate costs for you.

Best of luck.

Where can I purchase electric fencing locally in Chicago-land for raccoon control?

I have approximately 30 feet of grape vines adjacent to a creek (fenced in) and as soon as the grapes ripen I have 6 or more raccoons raid the vines. One year they made so much noise my neighbor called the sheriff not knowing they were raccoons.|||wow thats a funny story good luck hope it works out for you!

How much cement should you put in the post for chainlink fencing?

I am installing chainlinnk fence 4%26#039; high and I am traying to figure how much cement is needed per post? I am putting them about 15%26quot; deep.|||Back in my younger years I built fences for a living.

We cemented in the corner and end post completely as they were the most important. You don%26#039;t want them to move when you start stretching the chain link.

As for the line post in most cases we drove them in and maybe capped them with a few inches to prevent grass from growing around the post and in some cases we didn%26#039;t cement them at all. The line post are there to just hold the fence up. When you stretch the chain link the line post will be pulled in line with the corner or end post so the need to cement them isn%26#039;t the same.

Ultimately we built the fence the way the customer wanted it built. If he or she wanted the post cemented that%26#039;s what we did.

For your project you have to take into account your comfort level and do what you are comfortable with.

Just a note: you mentioned your depth was 15%26quot;, it is pretty important to make sure your post and the cement (unless it is just a cap to prevent grass from growing) is below the frost line. If it isn%26#039;t you run a chance they will move over time. Where I lived at the time our frost line was 18%26quot; but where I live now it%26#039;s 12%26quot;.

Good Luck with your project|||Let’s see, most post holes diggers make a 10”, or larger hole, also the inside of tube/post will be full of concrete.

Some straight forward math, 3.14*(15/2)^2*15=2,308 in^3

Then 2,308/1,728 = 1.3 cu. Ft. per post at least.

Depending on the numbr of post you can estimate the number of bags of ready mix concrete you will need. An 80 pound sack makes about 3/4 cu. ft.|||I%26#039;m not why people feel the need to use so much concrete. I put in a fence using NO concrete. I used a large hammer ( or small sledge ) to drive the poles into the ground. I put them as deep as I could ( 18%26quot; ) and cut off the top couple of inches that was damaged from hammering. Attach the top runner pipes, then attached the fencing.

That fence was still there 10 years later when I moved. The only need for concrete is to keep the poles from being pulled up. You know something....I%26#039;ve never seen a dog pull a fence up at the poles.

If you feel the need...then concrete every other one.|||Tamp dirt around the pole up to about 8 inches from top of hole. Fill the rest of hole with concrete. Not only will this hold the post secure,grass won%26#039;t grow around the pole.|||Usually I figure 5 feet out of the ground and 3 feet in the ground. A lot of your depth depends on the winds and soil conditions.|||put a 40 bag for your end poles and about 20 for your support ones remember soils are different for different areas|||When your done digging your hole reach down and scoop out some dirt around the bottom, this helps prevent frost heave. Good Luck!|||The posts should have about 2%26#039; in the ground. For a 4%26#039; fence, I usually use one 80lbs bag per post.|||Enough to hold it up.
