Which of the following represents the smallest amount of fencing that maria needs?

Maria grows several varieies of plants in a rectangular-shaped garden. She uses fencing to divide the garden into 16 squares that are each 1 m by 1 m. she also puts fencing around the perimeter of the garden.

Which of the following represents the smallest amount of fencing that maria needs?|||the best orientation of squares is a 4 by 4 checkerboard pattern. this is the most efficient because each 1m section of fence contributes to two borders. thus the amount of fence needed is 5rows*4meters + 5 columns*4meters= 40 meters. that calculation will make more sense if you draw a picture|||if it were a square it would required 40 metres of fencing for 16 of 1m*1m

Any other rectangle will require more than 40 m
