What's the best way to keep dogs out of a section of your yard short of fencing it off?

I%26#039;m looking for a inexpensive way to keep the dogs out of my lawn area. I%26#039;ve tried motion detectors that radiate high frequency sound..doesn%26#039;t work. Anyone know of some cool and easy way to accomplish this?

Thanks,

Dale Peterson|||The scarecrow sprinkler. It is a motion detecting sprinkler sensitive enough to turn on if even a bird lands in the yard. It emits a 3-5 second burst of water and then shuts off..

You will find them at any garden supply under several different brand names...they seem to run about $60..

You can also spread down a bag or two of builders sand where you want him to poop. dogs prefer to go in sand..|||They make an underground fence. The dog wears a special collar and you put stakes where the fence is. Once the dog knows his limits you can take the stakes down.|||sprinkle some cayanne pepper around the area that you dont want the dogs to be on. i did this and my pup that likes to dig, lick, and bite everything stopped once he smelled the cayanne pepper.|||a runner.|||Unfortunately, nothing works as well as a fence.

As they say: Good fences make good neighbors.|||There is a spray you can buy at the pet store. It smells bad to dogs but is not harmful to them.
