Does electronic fencing work for cats?
I%26#039;d like to let my cats out when I%26#039;m home and am considering an electronic/invidiible fence (similar to a dog%26#039;s fence) for my cats. Has anyone tried one? Does it work?|||We have tried this and we had very bad problems with this
Most of them work by shocking the Dog/cat
and this works if they are walking
but if they are on the run they go past the line and they will not come back
They are supposed to get to know that if they go to that spot they will get a shock.
But shocking animals even though it does not hurt them
they get desensitized and it will take a more and more powerful shock to do the same thing.
It has been my experience that they will get out.

Can posts from chain link fencing be recycled?
A friend took down a dog kennel and is keeping the chain link fence, but offered my the posts/poles if I wanted to take them to be recycled...I%26#039;m just not sure if they CAN be recycled and the local company isn%26#039;t answering the phone. Anyone know the answer out there?|||call your local recycleing place, tell them you have galvanised steel posts and such, and would they take them.
Are there any cheap horse fencing avaliable?
I don%26#039;t need very much, just like 30 to 40 feet in length, and one side is already covered.
My horse has her pasture chewed down to nubs, and I wanted to add a second smaller pasture for her to eat in during the day, and return her back to her main pasture with her stable at night. How can I easily construct a fence?|||I think you could get by the cheapest using horse wire(barbless wire and %26quot;t %26quot; posts for that small of a distance. This wire works best for internal fence lines since the horses will lean against it and stretch it over time. I don%26#039;t recommend it for outside fence lines since horses can get through it if they really want to.|||If your horse isn%26#039;t a wanderer or doesn%26#039;t test boundry, then tape, wire, or woven fence is cheap. But it is not sturdy, although very easy to install.

If you want something cheap and temporary, say only a couple of weeks, visit maxflex.com and scroll to almost the bottom of the page and you should see a fence call fast fence. this is meant for trail riding. i believe it is an electric fence however. This site also has cheap permanent fencing too. Or if you wanted to construct the fence yourself , buy yourself the amount needed of wood and start building. if you plan on building it yourself, it may be hard. i looked around for you and alot of places i saw said that the vertical wooden posts need to be cemented into the ground for better stabalization, then your supposed to wait about 24 hours before strapping on the barbed wire or nailing your horizontal wooden posts onto the main posts. well i hope i helped.|||i would say electrical tape for temporary fencing but it is not very strong or anything so if you horse escapes a lot it might not be so good. but if you are just using it for what you said you were i think it would be ok. Keep in mind that when you put her back in her original pasture (if your pasture is bid enough) to POSSIBLY divide it in half so you can just rotate what half you use. That is generally what you should have done in the first place but you know...accidents happen!

Is it ok to keep my dog around a metal fencing IN my house which is the size of a mini car?
I really need to know alot about dogs! i recently adopted a 2 year old maltese and it is HYPER active and it seems to follow me everywhere i go! including the toilet!
easy on the answers im only 13!|||Your doggie needs exercise. Hyper dogs need to be worn out. You need to walk, run, or roller blade with him every day if possible. I roller blade with my German Shepherd to wear out her excess energy and it works great.
Watch %26quot;Dog Whisperer%26quot; on the National Geographic channel. Cesar will teach you A LOT and it%26#039;s free. He says most behavioral problems like being hyper is from the dog not getting all the exercise it needs, and letting it run in a yard won%26#039;t do it, you need to take the dog on major walks/runs every day. It really works!! My dog will bark at other dogs but when she%26#039;s exercised she doesn%26#039;t even do that.
Your dog follows you everywhere because he loves you and chooses you for his %26quot;pack.%26quot; Since dogs are pack animals, your dog will be miserable if you leave him alone in some room without you and most likely cry, whine and destroy things to show you how upset he is. Dogs need to be with their people as much as possible, but if you want to leave her in an indoor pen when you go someplace, that%26#039;s alright as it will keep her safe.|||I can%26#039;t really give you any better answers than Shanna%26#039;s or DogAddict%26#039;s ... but I wanted to say good for you that you understand that it%26#039;s always a good idea to ask questions.

Well, you DO have to set some limits with your dog. I think taking a class would be a great idea. Classes are a lot of fun, and both you and your dog will learn a lot. You will learn how to give your dog all the basic commands (like sit, down, stay, etc.), but more importantly, the training will help you and your dog to communicate better.
Enjoy your new dog! And Good Luck!|||Are you talking about a puppy playpen or a crate? Either one is fine provided it is actually made for dogs. If it is not made for dogs it may not be totally safe.
Just make sure that you do not leave him in there for more than a few hours at a time and he has plenty of potty breaks outside and plenty of excercise and then it is fine to put him in there when you can%26#039;t be watching him.

As he gains confidence in his new home he may not follow you around as much. Some obedience classes will help him gain some confidence too.
Exercize will help him alot too. A tired dog is a good dog.
After a while, you do kinda get used to having company when you go to the bathroom LOL|||Don%26#039;t let him follow you in the jon. Play with him until he%26#039;s tired. He%26#039;ll crash. I used to do that to my dog. I learned what wore her out fast and got her to play for like 15 minutes till she passed out.|||HI!
The pen and crate Shanna showed you are fine for your little guy! I have to tell you I have 3 Golden Retrievers and they follow me into the toilet too. lol They love been with me all the time. I really dont mind but if you do then just close the door so he can%26#039;t get in. All my dogs I%26#039;ve ever had have been my shadow%26#039;s. It%26#039;s the dogs way of just showing you that they like and trust you. You just have to be careful not to step on
them.
I hope you get your little guy into some obedience training. It%26#039;s really fun and not only will the dog learn but you will too. Makes you a better dog owner and the dog a better canine citizen too!

They can even be just short play sessions. The goal is to use your dog%26#039;s energy in a positive way. 2. A well trained dog makes a good companion. The more your dog knows the better behaved it will be. Before you start your class here is a good pointer. PRAISE! Any time your dog is doing something good... tell her! When she is laying down and being quiet, quietly praise her. Just a %26quot;good girl%26quot; will do nicely. Dogs very quickly learn to repeat behaviors that get attention. This also means that there are behaviors you can ignore and they will go away. Your trainer will tell you all about this. As for the question about the pen... read and listen to Shanna. The reason he is following you is he has chosen you as the one he loves the most. I have Chihuahua%26#039;s and especially when they are really tiny they can really get under your feet. I used to put them in a babies playpen when I needed to leave the room or vacuum etc so as they would come to no harm. I think you have had a great idea to keep your little one safe when you need a little time for yourself.
